Welcome to the Stoddard Music Studio Website!

About the Studio

Thank you for your interest in private voice instruction! Please take a few moments to check out this website to learn more about my studio. I offer a variety of lesson formats designed to cater to your musical goals and budget.

My desire is to help you become a better singer and musician no matter what style you want to sing - classical, contemporary or Broadway. There are certain foundations that apply to all styles such as proper vocal technique, breath management, posture, diction, expression, confidence, ear training, sight-singing, musicianship, vocal health and so much more.  Whether you are seeking to improve your voice for your own personal enjoyment or for specific goals such as participation in school or church choirs, worship teams, musical theater roles, Regional or All-State Choir and auditions for college music programs, private instruction will give you the opportunity to develop your voice and musical skills. It's also fun!

Lessons are offered on a weekly basis in 30 minute or 45 minute sessions. See Policies and Rates pages for more details. The studio is in my home, which is located near the Costco at Cave Creek Rd. & the 101. Please contact me through the "contact" page of this website for more information!

About Me

Teaching music is my passion. For the past 24 years I have worked in the Valley as a music educator directing choirs of all ages, teaching voice and piano lessons, directing musicals and performing in various choral groups and musical theater productions. In addition to teaching privately, I work as the Director of Vocal Music for Productions at Dream City Church.  I sang with the Sonoran Desert Chorale for six seasons and have served on the Valley of the Sun NATS Board as a Vice President of Programs and the Nomination Committee. Past choral directing and teaching experience includes Arizona Christian University, Paradise Valley Community College, Scottsdale Christian Academy, the Phoenix Boys Choir, Explorer Middle School and Mountain Trail Middle School in the Paradise Valley Unified School District and CYT Phoenix.  I received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education (Emphasis in Voice) from Susquehanna University and a Master of Music Education from Arizona State University. Professional affiliations include the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS,) the American Choral Director's Association (ACDA) and the Arizona Music Educator's Association (AMEA.)

My husband Mark is the Performing Arts Director at Dream City Church, and also writes, directs and acts for various theater organizations in town. We have three sons - Philip, who earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Arts and his MFA degree in Acting, both from the The Juilliard School, Stephen, who graduated from Northern Arizona University with a degree in Parks and Recreation Management and a minor in Music and now works as an Outdoor Educator and Zachary, who attends Northern Arizona University majoring in Music and minoring in Arts & Cultural Management. Mark and I enjoy traveling and exploring new places to hike in Arizona with our dogs.

 Lessons
* Weekly lessons are recommended in order to achieve the most consistent development in vocal technique, musicianship skills, repertoire and regular practice habits.

* Bi-weekly lessons are available for college age and adult students or for those whose schedule does not allow for weekly study. Bi-weekly lessons are arranged by request and availability, as lesson times are "shared."

Lesson Rates For Fall 2019
* Voice Lessons: 45 minutes - $55
I recommend that HS age students take a weekly 45 minute lesson. This is an appropriate length for students who want to focus on improving their sight reading skills or who are preparing for school choir programs, Regional/All-State Choirs, Classical and/or Musical Theater NATS Auditions, community theater shows and college programs.

* Voice Lessons : 30 minutes  - $45
I recommend that MS/JH age students take a weekly 30 minute lesson.  This is an appropriate length for the vocal development of this age group, especially if the student is new to singing. An introduction to sight-reading and musicianship skills will be included in these lessons. With instructor approval, students who are more advanced or who want to focus on sight-reading in preparation for HS choir auditions can take a weekly 45 minute lesson.

* Bi-Weekly Lessons: 45 minutes - $55 (based upon request and availability)
Bi-weekly lessons are best-suited for college age students and adults whose schedules do not allow for weekly study and/or singers with more established technique that want to maintain healthy vocal habits or coach for upcoming auditions/productions. Lessons are arranged upon request and studio availability, as students must be "paired" in a shared lesson time.  Occasionally younger students are accepted on a bi-weekly schedule based on individual vocal development, level of musicianship and personal circumstances.

* New Fall 2019: Group Lessons (4-6 students) - $25 per student/per class
Group lessons can be a great introduction to lessons for younger students or students new to singing. Students may also take a group class while waiting for a private lesson spot to become available.  Classes will be in 8 week sessions, with the possibility of continuing in additional sessions throughout the school year. Classes will be focused by age and/or area of interest such as:
Younger/Beginner (ages 10 - 12 emphasis on basic musicianship & vocal technique,) Older/Beginner (ages 13 - 15 emphasis on basic musicianship, vocal technique & singing in harmony,) Musical Theater Audition Prep (including songs and monologues) and Regional Choir Audition Prep (including solos and sight reading.)
